Data collection is a direct implementation activity because RBTs carry out the prescribed behavior-analytic procedures exactly as written and record the client’s responses and progress. This hands-on data gathering is how the supervising BCBA or BCBA-D monitors effectiveness, makes data-driven decisions, and adjusts plans as needed. RBTs implement interventions and document results in real time, which is central to delivering reliable, measurable services.

Developing new treatment plans is not within an RBT’s role; that planning work is done by the supervising BCBA, who designs and updates interventions based on collected data. Diagnosing medical conditions is outside the scope of practice for RBTs, as it requires medical training. Billing clients is administrative work handled by office or billing staff and is not part of the RBT’s clinical duties.
